Heritage, Nature, and Modern Living in Singapore’s Garden District

Bidadari has officially arrived. What was once a quiet piece of history has blossomed into one of Singapore’s most desirable “Garden Districts,” offering a lifestyle defined by rolling hills, a 10-hectare park, and seamless connectivity.

As the community grows, the final touches are being added to the estate’s master plan. This includes the Mount Vernon Funeral Parlour Complex, scheduled for completion in 2026. Designed with the same care as the surrounding parks, this new facility is built to be a quiet, eco-friendly, and visually integrated part of the neighborhood.

A Respectful Tribute: The Legacy of Old Mount Vernon

To understand Bidadari’s charm, one must appreciate its history. The land has always been a place of quiet reflection, and the new development pays homage to that legacy through its design.
The history of Mount Vernon adds a layer of depth to Bidadari’s identity. It has always been a place of quiet dignity, and that legacy continues in a much more compact, modern form.

1962 (October): Launch of the original Mount Vernon Crematorium.

1987 (November): Completion of the iconic 9-storey pagoda and church-style columbarium.

2018 (September): The site closed to allow the birth of the Bidadari residential town.

2023–2026: Construction of the new, smaller 1.1-hectare complex begins, focusing on modern funeral wakes rather than cremation or long-term ash storage.

While the old site was sprawling (over 7 hectares), the new facility is a compact, 1.1-hectare boutique development that focuses on modern architecture rather than the imposing structures of the past.

Discrete Design: Why the New Complex is “Resident-Friendly”

A Good Neighbor: Designed for Residents

If you are living in ParkEdge@Bidadari or the Bartley Heights cluster, the new complex is designed to stay out of sight and mind.

  • Discreet Architecture: Designed by LAUD Architects, the building is low-rise and inward-facing. Most rituals happen within internal courtyards, keeping processions private and shielded from public view.
  • A “Green” Profile: The complex features extensive roof greenery. From a high-floor BTO, it will look more like a landscaped park building than a traditional funeral parlor.
  • Zero Smoke, Zero Ash: There is no crematorium on-site. All ceremonial burning is done in a centralized, eco-friendly indoor chamber, ensuring the air stays fresh for the morning joggers at Bidadari Park.
  • Smart Traffic: With its compact footprint (only 1/7th of the original site), traffic is carefully managed to ensure smooth flows along Sang Nila Utama Road.

Proximity to essential infrastructure hasn’t dampened the demand for Bidadari. In fact, its unique history and premium landscaping have made it a standout performer in the HDB resale market.

Community Vibe: Bidadari is more than just a housing estate; it is a meticulously planned town where heritage meets modern family life.

The “Backyard” Park: Having a massive lake and park at your doorstep is the ultimate luxury in land-scarce Singapore.

Modern Standards: The 2026 facility is a “new generation” complex—minimalist, quiet, and seamlessly tucked away into the terrain.
